Alexandra Miller, an active performer and instructor, recently was appointed Second Flute of the California Symphony. She holds the position of 2nd Flute/Piccolo of the Stockton Symphony. Mrs. Miller was Principal Flute of the American Youth Symphony for seven seasons under the direction of Alexander Treger, Former Concertmaster of the L.A. Philharmonic. She has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the New World Symphony, the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, Dream Orchestra, San Bernadino Symphony and with the YMF Debut Orchestra. Additionally, she has performed under the baton of James Conlon, Nicholas McGegan, Alan Silvestri, Carl St. Clair, Michael Tilson-Thomas, and John Williams. She has been the featured soloist with the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony, the California State University, Long Beach Symphony Orchestra and the Santa Monica College Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Miller won the 1st prize in the woodwinds division of the Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition and was named winner of the Orange County Performing Arts Center’s Tomorrow’s Stars Competition. Most recently, she placed as a prize-winning finalist in the prestigious Myrna Brown Competition and San Diego Flute Guild's Artist Gold Competition. She received her Master and Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, where she studied with James Walker and Gary Woodward.
As a flute instructor, Mrs. Miller teaches private lessons to students of all ages and levels in the greater Los Angeles area. She has had students earn top positions in highly competitive ensembles, including SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Groups, CBDA All-State Honor Groups, and Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra. As an MTAC certified instructor, she helps prepare students for Certificate of Merit testing and has maintained a 100% studio pass rate on the exam.
