Alabama born tubist, Errol Rhoden III, is an active musician across Southern California. He has performed and recorded with artists such as Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Gwen Stefani, and Metro Boomin. He can most recently be heard on the 2024 blockbuster summer film soundtrack Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Rhoden also has multiple recording credits as principal tuba for live performances and awards shows such as The Lion King Live at Hollywood Bowl in 2024, The Game Awards Show Orchestra in 2023, and the 2022 NFL Honors Awards Show honoring the 2021-22 NFL season. He currently serves as the principal tubist of the Civic Orchestra of Los Angeles. Rhoden has a Master of Music Degree in Tuba Performance from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music as well as a Bachelor of Music Degree in Tuba Performance from the University of Southern California. Over his years of schooling he studied with Hollywood tubist’s Doug Tornquist and Jim Self, former Principal Tuba of the LA Philharmonic Norm Pearson, Principal Tuba of the Houston Symphony Dave Kirk, and Principal Tuba of the Baltimore Symphony Aubrey Foard. During his schooling, Rhoden held the Helgard Field Tuba Chair of the American Youth Symphony until its extinction in February 2024. In addition to all of Rhoden’s playing endeavors, a great passion of his is teaching young musicians in the Los Angeles area. He serves as the tuba/euphonium coach for the Los Angeles Philharmonics Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) program in Inglewood, Harmony Project’s Expo Center, and most recently South Pointe Middle School. Rhoden has never limited himself to one style of playing living in Los Angeles. He enjoys performing and recording pop, jazz, hip-hop, and r&b records! He can be regularly seen playing sousaphone with the Chameleon Brass Band during the summer and winter months at the San Diego Zoo and was a former member of the 2019 Disneyland All-American College Band. In addition to his behind the scenes music contributions to films and tv show soundtrack he has a budding career starring on screen in commercials for companies such as Nike and Taco Bell.
